CHARLAP HYMAN & HERRERO

Recently I told my husband, “I am dying for a powder blue kitchen with carrara marble and brass hardware” - he laughed, and said “So not you!” But recently I have been feeling this color. All of it. Blue is a versatile and creates a calming and serene atmosphere. From light, sky blues to deeper, navy hues and greener tones, it can be used in a variety of ways to enhance the look and feel of your home. Recently, it has become a very popular color being used in multiple sorts of materials from lime-wash walls to carpets.

Mid-tones: A foundation to the room

Mid-tone blues are a beautiful way to show the trueness of the color. You will easily see which way this color leans, more green or purple, and depending on that shade, you can figure out what mood you are creating as a statement.

Accents of Blue

In addition to using blue paint, you can also incorporate blue into your room through accessories. Blue accents such as throw pillows, curtains, furniture, or a blue area rug can add a pop of color to a neutral room. You can also use blue accents to draw attention to a particular area of the room, such as a bookshelf or fireplace. Blue is the opposite of orange on the color wheel, so it looks amazing against more orange tone wood stains.

Light Blue: A Great Choice for Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Light blues are soft and calming which is ideal for creating a relaxing atmosphere in a bedroom or bathroom. The color blue has been shown to have a calming effect on the mind, making it a popular choice for spaces where people want to unwind and de-stress. A light blue room goes well with creams (which make it pop), white, and light greys.

Navy: A Bold and Elegant Statement

Dark blue, such as navy or cobalt, can be used to create a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere in a room. Whether used on the walls or as an accent color, navy can make a bold statement that adds depth and interest to a space. When using darker colors, it's important to balance it with colors that are bright and neutral. Small pops of color, for example red, can look nice on the walls.
